How To Avoid Music Disasters At Your Wedding

When deciding on the type of entertainment for your wedding, there’s a lot of things to take into consideration. Your budget, the type of entertainment such as a live band or a DJ, your playlist and so much more. But accidents happen like the wrong song getting played or awkward silence in between songs. Here’s a couple steps for you to take to avoid things like this from happening.

Book Your Entertainment Early

Kind of how you need to buy your wedding dress months in advance to make time for alterations, you need to book your entertainment early. A good DJ or live band can be booked months if not a year ahead of time. You don’t want to wait until last minute to book your favorite band and to only find out that they already have that day filled.

Have An Itinerary

One of the smartest things you can do is give a copy of your itinerary to your band or DJ. That way they know exactly what’s going on and what time things should be happening. It’s also a smart idea to give a contact list to your team for people such as the best man or parents. I’ve heard many stories of DJs left in the dark when it comes to time frames. Things just don’t run as smoothly as they should.

Trust Your Team

To put it simply, we are the professionals. As a DJ, we are trained to “read the room.” That means we can are able to tell when it’s time to play certain music to get people up and excited or slow it down. Weddings are meant to be fun and memorable for all of your guests. You don’t want them going home wishing that they had better music to dance to or that there were too many “slow” songs.

On the other hand, you are obviously able to have your favorite songs played throughout the night. But you can’t predict what the mood will be like three hours into the reception. It is our job to keep the flow going to ensure you and your guests have the best time possible!

Keep Your Budget In Mind

Most people are on a budget when it comes to planning their wedding. But if you choose your band or DJ simply because they are the cheapest, you might wind up disappointed. I’ve touched on this subject before in previous blogs, but I believe you get what you pay for.

You might also have your heart set on a six piece live band but come to find out that your venue doesn’t have space for them or they are out of your budget. But you can always downsize to a smaller band or even a local DJ. Keep your options open and don’t be afraid to shop around to find the best fit for your budget.
